How to balance your remaining calories and macros
You can be close to your calorie target and still have a different balance of protein, carbs and fat than you planned. Start by checking the log, then consider what fits your next meal.
What are remaining macros?
Your remaining amount is your daily target minus what you have already logged. MacroResolve tracks calories, protein, carbohydrate and fat. These figures depend on your selected targets and the accuracy of your entries; they are not a separate assessment of what your body needs right now.
Check the log before changing dinner
Look for a missed meal, the wrong serving quantity or a raw/cooked mismatch. An accidental duplicate can make the remaining allowance look smaller than it is. If an entry is wrong, correct it before using the remaining totals as a guide.
A worked example
| Measure | Target | Logged | Remaining |
|---|---|---|---|
| Calories | 2,000 kcal | 1,500 kcal | 500 kcal |
| Protein | 150 g | 110 g | 40 g |
| Carbs | 215 g | 160 g | 55 g |
| Fat | 60 g | 47 g | 13 g |
These are example numbers, not recommended targets. They suggest looking for an addition with protein and carbs while checking how much fat it adds. Food values, rounding and energy calculations mean the totals may not line up perfectly.
Use the numbers to compare realistic options
Think about foods you have, meals you enjoy and the portions you can reasonably eat. Adjust one part at a time and compare the effect in the Diary. A useful option does not need to land on every target exactly. Your preferences, hunger and any professional dietary guidance also matter.
How Balance Macros helps
MacroResolve’s Balance Macros feature compares candidate foods with your remaining calorie and macro targets and suggests additions that can help you get closer. Available candidates can include favourites, recently used foods, custom foods, saved meals and generic foods.
- Log the foods you have already eaten.
- Check your daily targets and remaining totals.
- Open Balance Macros from the Diary.
- Review the suggested foods and quantities.
- Choose an option that suits you and check the resulting Diary totals.
The suggestions are mathematical matches, not guaranteed recipes or complete meal plans. You can reject an unsuitable combination. The feature does not replace checking ingredients, dietary restrictions or portion sizes.
What if one target is already exceeded?
Review the entry and your target first. If both are correct, use the day’s totals as information; there is no need to force a perfect result in every column. For help deciding whether targets suit your circumstances, consult a qualified professional.
Is Balance Macros available on the free plan?
Yes. Balance Macros is available to Free and Premium users. Each suggested food added to the Diary counts toward the free allowance of 100 food entries per calendar month. Premium provides unlimited Diary food entries. The app is ad-free on both plans.
